Enjoy the Water

New Richmond is situated along the Willow River, the Apple River, and several nearby lakes, providing easygoing water recreation for boaters, paddlers, and anglers.

 

  • Boat Docks & LaunchesMary Park, on Mary Park Lake (sometimes called New Richmond Flowage), has a public boat launch ideal for small boats, pontoons, kayaks, and canoes. It’s a quiet 20-acre lake with a maximum depth of 15 feet, perfect for a low-key day out on the water.
  • Canoe Landings — The Apple River provides gentle paddling with a dedicated canoe landing on County Highway C. Launch here for a scenic, family-friendly float through peaceful waters. The Sather Nature Center offers a popular launch site for kayakers onto the Willow River.  And, nearby Willow River State Park offers seasonal canoe and Kayak rentals, with a non-motorized boat launch on Little Falls Lake for additional paddling.
  • Fishing PiersHatfield Lake (inside Hatfield Park) has a fishing pier and shore access. Mary Park also provides excellent shoreline fishing. Panfish, largemouth bass, northern pike, and bluegill are common in these still waters.

Get Moving

Stay active with dedicated facilities for all ages and skill levels.

 

  • PickleballMary Park has permanent outdoor pickleball courts with lines and nets. For year-round play, check out the New Richmond Pickleball club (four dedicated courts, with open play and leagues indoors).
  • Skate Park — The New Richmond Skatepark (at Hatfield Park) features ramps, rails, and obstacles for skaters and BMX riders of all levels. It’s free and a favorite local hangout.
  • Best Spots for Courts — Grab a bat and ball and head to Hatfield Park, which has baseball fields, batting cages, picnic shelters, and a small playground. Freedom Park offers multi-use athletic fields and sand volleyball. Mary Park has public-access basketball, tennis, and pickleball courts. Check Paperjack Park for a casual play space.

Family Time Outside

These spots are perfect for creating memories with the whole family.

 

  • Best Picnic Areas — Mary Park and Paperjack Park have shaded tables and shelters. Freedom Park also has picnic areas right up against Hatfield Lake, perfect for larger parties
  • Best Playgrounds — Will’s Playground at Mary Park is an all-abilities, community-built gem with soft surfacing. Paperjack Park has modern playground equipment and open space for running around.

Take a Walk

With over 19.5 miles of connected trails, New Richmond makes walking and hiking effortless. Explore the Mary Park Trail, Hatfield Lake Trail, Doughboy Trail, and John Doar History Trail right in town. For bigger adventures, drive just a short distance to Willow River State Park (2,891 acres). It offers 13 miles of scenic hiking trails, including access to Willow Falls, prairie remnants, overlooks, and a nature center. Popular loops like the Burkhardt Trail and Willow Falls Overlook offer beautiful river-gorge views and waterfalls.
